The cost of creating a game

There was a time when a computer game like Pac man, would cost a mere £50,000 to develop, but that was in 1982 and that was when a £50k was worth about £100k at today’s valuation, but still that sort of cost would be small change to how much producing a computer game today.

In a report by the BBC it has been estimated that the average PS3 game will cost around £8 million to develop, despite all of the available software and other hardware help.

So this is not good news for the gamers who thrive on new games and variety of game play, if games are going to be costing millions to develop, that’s before marketing efforts and profit mark-ups have been added. This could mean that there will not be many game produced each and as costs increase this will only worse.
