Google allows fully unlocked G1 for developers

When the first phone with the Android platform by Google went on sale, it did not take long for some developers to start producing their own applications and hacking them into the system.

However, from today there will be no hacking required as Google have opened the entire system to developers, by allowing open access to both the hardware and the SIM of the G1 phone.

The phone was first released through T Mobile who have ever since the release had to get the unlock codes, but as with many of these things this was taking too much time for some developers.

In order for a developer to do this, they will first need to register with the Android Market website, they will only need to pay around £15 to this, but there is a hefty £200 fee for the hardware.
