The world’s fastest computer

It may have cost around £50 million to build, but the computer which has been called “Roadrunner” is reputed to be the fastest computer in the world.

It was announced by scientists in Washington, USA that the computer will be able to perform around 1,000 trillion actions per second. This was found by running the computer through its paces in a series of sustained exercises.

Designed and built by IBM and the people at the Los Alamos National Laboratory, which is significant as the computer will be used for working on nuclear weapons. This will include simulating explosions for whatever reason that is, it’s amazing that they build this computer and all they are going to do is play games on.
