Microsoft reveals some code

For the first time the software giant Microsoft revealed some fourteen thousand pages of tech documentation for core software code. This will for the very first time show off the protocols for Office 2007, Office Share Point Server 2007 and Exchange Server 2007.

Naturally the idea behind this is for the company to be more open and the fact that they where hit by the European Union over concerns of anti trust etc. this means that the company will be releasing the some of the inside data of its code, this will happen through the Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN) website.

Although this will enable people to see the inner working of the Microsoft products, will it help the competitors to produce comparable products or even compatible products that could work along side the Microsoft name?
