Social networking to get 999 numbers

There is a report due out on Friday from the Home Secretary Jacqui Smith that is going to take a look at the many social networking sites that are so popular with children of all ages these days. It is believed that a greater understanding from parents is needed too.

The recommendation is that these sites that include Bebo, Facebook and MySpace are going to have to start taking responsibility for their users. This means that they may have to give over some of their valuable advertising space to adverts that are basically a 999 link which will explain what do if they are worried.

Although there are age limitations in place, it is easy for young children to open an account by simple readjusting their date of birth. The report is also interested in seeking ways that these sites can tighten up their registration process and for parents to use software that can restrict the use of these sites.
