Hot thighs could be a thing of the past
Thanks to researchers at Purdue University it appears that they may have developed a way to keep laptops from heating up to the extent that they do these days. And anyone who has sat with a laptop on their legs for some time will know how hot they can get.
By working with the engineers at Intel, the researchers have come up with a prototype device that uses something called “Ionic Breeze†along with a normal everyday cooling fan. This drives the heat away from the chips leaving the whole device nice and cool.
What happens is that there is a little Ionic power plant attached to the computer chip; this will then give off positively charged ions, which are then pulled across the surface of the chip cooling it down. This all happens at the molecular level.
This research has been going on for several years already and is expected to give the computer a 40 % to 50% improvement.
